World Environment Day (WED) aims to be the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place year round but climax on June 5. WED celebrations began in 1972 and have grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action. Through WED, the UN Environment Programme is able to personalize environmental issues and enable everyone to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
The theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is “7 Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with care”. This is to bring in behavioral changes for adopting sustainable life style so that negative environmental impact of economic growth can be checked.
By celebrating World Environment Day, we remind ourselves and others of the importance of caring for our environment. Remember that every action counts.
We commemorated the moment on 5th June 2015 by organising a plantation activity at our fire station site in Nimgaon, and a presentation on this year’s theme at our conference hall.
